Questions, answered directly

The most common questions about DDSArk — what it does, how fast it recovers a practice, and how it keeps dental data beyond ransomware’s reach.

Product

What is DDSArk?

DDSArk is a managed cloud-backup and ransomware-recovery platform for multi-site dental organizations. It captures immutable, encrypted backups of practice systems, monitors backup health across the whole fleet from one console, and restores a full server in minutes after data loss or a ransomware attack.

Who is DDSArk for?

DDSArk is built for dental groups and DSOs running anywhere from a handful to 200+ locations, and for the managed service providers (MSPs) who support them. One multi-tenant console covers every practice.

What does DDSArk back up?

DDSArk protects the servers and systems a dental practice runs on, including practice-management databases and imaging. Backups are captured on-site, encrypted, and shipped to immutable cloud storage.

Recovery

How fast can DDSArk recover a practice?

The median verified recovery time for a full dental-practice server is 11 minutes. The recovery-point objective is as low as 15 minutes, so at most 15 minutes of work is at risk between snapshots.

How does DDSArk recover from ransomware?

Because backups are immutable, ransomware that encrypts a practice cannot encrypt or delete the backups. DDSArk restores a clean, pre-attack recovery point to new or wiped hardware, typically returning the practice to service in minutes rather than days.

Are backups tested?

Yes. Every protected site is automatically test-restored on a recurring schedule, and the result is reported to you. A backup that cannot be restored is treated as a failure, not a success.

Security & compliance

How does DDSArk protect backups from ransomware?

Backups are stored as immutable, object-locked copies that cannot be altered or deleted before their retention expires — even with stolen admin credentials. They are encrypted with AES-256 and replicated across independent storage providers, so an attacker who compromises a practice still cannot reach the backups.

Does DDSArk sign a HIPAA Business Associate Agreement?

Yes. DDSArk signs a Business Associate Agreement (BAA) with every customer handling protected health information, at no extra cost, and applies HIPAA-aligned administrative, physical, and technical safeguards.

Is DDSArk SOC 2 compliant?

DDSArk applies the security controls a SOC 2 program covers — encryption, access control, monitoring, and audit logging — and signs a HIPAA BAA with every customer. DDSArk does not currently hold a completed SOC 2 Type II attestation; our security documentation is available on request.

Practice software & how-to

How do I back up Dentrix?

Back up the Dentrix database with scheduled, application-consistent backups stored off-site and immutably — not just a copy on a local drive. DDSArk installs an agent on the Dentrix server that captures recovery points and ships them encrypted to immutable cloud storage. See the Dentrix backup guide for details.

How do I back up Eaglesoft?

Take scheduled, application-consistent backups of the Eaglesoft database and its imaging, and store them off-site and immutably. DDSArk runs an agent on the Eaglesoft server and ships encrypted recovery points to immutable cloud storage. See the Eaglesoft backup guide for details.

How do I back up Open Dental?

Open Dental stores data in a MySQL/MariaDB database, so back up that database consistently, include the image store, and keep the copies off-site and immutable. DDSArk captures application-consistent recovery points from the Open Dental server. See the Open Dental backup guide for details.

Is cloud backup HIPAA compliant?

Cloud backup can support HIPAA compliance when the provider signs a Business Associate Agreement (BAA) and applies safeguards such as encryption, access controls, and audit logging. HIPAA does not certify software — it places obligations on the practice and its vendors. DDSArk signs a BAA with every customer.

What happens to my dental records after a ransomware attack?

If your backups are immutable, your records are unaffected — ransomware cannot reach them. DDSArk restores a clean recovery point from before the attack to new or cleaned hardware, so you recover your charts, schedule, and imaging without paying a ransom.

Pricing & onboarding

How is DDSArk priced?

DDSArk uses managed pricing, typically per protected device or per location, so cost scales cleanly with your fleet. Contact sales for a quote tailored to your number of sites.

How long does onboarding take?

Most practices are protected the same day. Appliances are pre-staged, and new locations join the fleet from the existing console without rebuilding configuration each time.

What uptime does DDSArk guarantee?

DDSArk commits to 99.99% monthly availability under its SLA — about 4 minutes of allowed downtime per month — with service credits of 10% to 50% if that target is missed.
